FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State scored 54 second-half points to pull away from Wheeling University, 87-73, on Saturday evening inside Joe Retton Arena.

With the win, Fairmont State has now won four-straight games and has an 8-2 record both overall and in the MEC. Wheeling falls to 2-7 on the season following the loss.

The Falcons shot 50 percent from the field in the win, which included 11 three-pointers and 32 points in the paint. Fairmont also held a commanding 21-6 scoring advantage on the fast-break.

The Falcons also cashed in at the free throw line, knocking down 18-of-19 attempts in the win.

Wheeling was limited to 42.6 percent from the field, including just 38 percent in the final 20 minutes of play.

Dale Bonner led the Falcons in the victory with 29 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. The Falcons also got 20 points and five rebounds from
Isaiah Sanders and 17 points from
Zyon Dobbs off the bench. Dobbs shot 6-of-7 from the field.

Wheeling was led by 15 points and five assists from Jarett Haines. WU also got 13 points from Brent Price and 12 points and eight rebounds from Jordan Reid.

Despite the 14-point final margin, Saturday's game featured seven ties and 16 lead changes.

Fairmont State's matchup with Glenville State on Monday has been postponed due to COVID-19 protocols in the Pioneer program. The Falcons will next host Notre Dame College in a 7:30 p.m. matchup on Wednesday at Joe Retton Arena.
