WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- No. 20-ranked West Liberty shot 64 percent from the field and buried 17 three-pointers in a runaway 126-96 victory over No. 24 Fairmont State on Wednesday evening at the ASRC.
With the victory, West Liberty improves to 12-3 on the year and has won at least a share of the Mountain East Conference North Division with tonight's victory. Fairmont State falls to 10-4 following the setback.
West Liberty stretched a one-point lead (41-40) at the 6:12 mark of the opening half to a 16-point halftime advantage after outscoring the Falcons 29-16 in the final six minutes of play in the first half. During the stretch, West Liberty was 11-of-12 from the field and 5-of-6 from three.
The Hilltoppers didn't cool off in the second half either, starting the second 20 minutes on a quick 21-8 scoring run to push the lead to 27 at the 13:10 mark.
Fairmont State played well on the offensive end, shooting 48 percent from the field and also hit 14 three-pointers.
Fairmont State had four double-figure scorers, led by 27 points from
Isaiah Sanders.
Dale Bonner also chipped in 24 points, while
Zyon Dobbs finished with 15.
Ilisia Washington also reached double-figures off the bench with 11.
Cole VonHandorf passed out six assists.
West Liberty got big games from Pat Robinson and Dalton Bolon with 30 and 27 points, respectively. Robinson shot 13-of-17 from the field.
Bolon scored each of his 27 points in the opening half, shooting 11-of-19 from the field and 5-of-8 from three. Bolon also pulled down nine rebounds for the Hilltoppers.
Malik McKinney also added 21 points for WLU, while Zach Rasile came off the bench to add 17 following a 5-of- 5 performance from three.
Fairmont State will return to action on Friday afternoon at Glenville State. Tip is set for 1:30 p.m. at the Waco Center.
