Fairmont State Takes Down Concord, 90-68

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The No. 21-ranked Fairmont State men's basketball team shot 50 percent from the field and made 11 three-pointers on Monday evening, rolling to a 90-68 victory over Concord at Joe Retton Arena.
 
With the win, Fairmont State improves to 6-2 on the season. Concord falls to 4-5.
 
Fairmont State struggled from behind the arc early in the game but scored 24 points in the paint and 11 points off turnovers in the opening half to open up a 13-point halftime advantage (41-28). The inside game opened up the 3-point shot in the second half, as FSU went 9-of-21 from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes of the game. The Falcons also held a 44-37 advantage on the glass.
 
Fairmont State moved the ball extremely well on the offensive end this evening, finishing the game with 22 assists on 34 made baskets in the win. Sophomore point guard Dale Bonner recorded 11 of Fairmont State's assists in the game.
 
On the defensive end, the Falcons forced Concord into 14 turnovers, which helped Fairmont State grab a 22-3 advantage in fast-break points. CU was also limited to just 37 percent shooting from the field, including a dismal 5-of-24 performance from three.
 
Cole VonHandorf led Fairmont State in the victory with 21 points and five rebounds, shooting 8-of-13 from the field. The Falcons also got 16 points and five rebounds from Isaiah Sanders, 14 points and 11 assists from Bonner, and 13 points and seven rebounds from Przemyslaw Golek. Seth Younkin also had a big day in the post for the Falcons with six points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.
 
Ten players scored for the Falcons in the victory.
 
Concord got a team-high 19 points and seven rebounds from Malik Johnson. Ethan Heller also chipped in 12 for the Mountain Lions.
 
Fairmont State will hit the road on Wednesday evening for an MEC matchup with Frostburg State. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
