Big Defensive Effort Helps Fairmont State to 0-0 Draw Against No. 19 Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- For the third-consecutive Friday, the Fairmont State women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw in Mountain East Conference action. This week, the Falcons held No. 19 Charleston to six shots on goal, each of which were saved by sophomore goalkeeper Taylor
Kennedy.

Charleston came into the game with a 3-0 record and had scored 11 goals in the trio of victories.

Charleston moves to 3-0-1 on the season. Fairmont State moves to 1-0-3. Neither team has given up a goal this season.

UC held a commanding advantage in total shots with a 10-2 advantage. Both of Fairmont's shot attempts were off the mark as UC goalkeepers Carol Burgess and Kaylee Hensley didn't have to record a save to preserve the clean sheet for the Golden Eagles.

Kennedy has now recorded six saves or more in each of the last three games and recorded her fourth shutout of the season in the FSU goal tonight. She now has 16 career shutouts.

Ari Christiansen and Emma Delk each recorded shot attempts for the Falcons, both coming in the first half of the game.

Rachel Osborne led Charleston in the offensive zone with two shots on goal. In all, six different players recorded shot attempts for the Golden Eagles.

UC spent most of the second overtime in its offensive zone as Kennedy recorded saves in the 103rd, 104th, and 105th minutes. Two of the UC shot attempts were by Osborne and one came off the foot of Keira Hill.

In addition to the advantage in shots and shots on goal, UC also had a 4-0 edge in corner kicks during the game.

Fairmont State will return home to host Alderson Broaddus next Friday at Duvall-Rosier Field. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
