FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State softball earned a huge doubleheader sweep over West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday evening, taking down the Bobcats by scores of 8-0 and 7-1.

Following the doubleheader sweep, the Falcons improve to 15-7 overall and 11-7 in the MEC. WCWC falls to 8-8 both overall and in the league.

Game 1
Â
In game one, Fairmont State quickly jumped in front following a three-run home run by
Cierra Chastain in the bottom of the second inning. The Falcons then scored five more runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game via the eight-run rule.

Courtney Moyer got the scoring started for the Falcons in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice bunt that
Abbey Ammons was able to beat out on her slide into home.
Hannah Workman also brought home a run on an infield fielder's choice that plated Chastain from third.

Moyer and Workman each scored later in the inning on wild pitches that gave the Falcons a commanding 7-0 advantage. The game ended during the next at-bat, when Ammons was walked with the bases loaded.

Chastain batted 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three runs batted-in during the game. Four other players recorded hits for the Falcons.

Chastain (7-2) also picked up her seventh win of the season in the circle for the Falcons. She pitched a complete-game shutout and allowed just four hits in the win. She also recorded six strikeouts.

Game 2
Â
In game two, Fairmont State once again opened up an early lead and never looked back.

Moyer got the scoring started for the Falcons in the top of the second when she was walked with the bases loaded to record the RBI. Later in the inning,
Meadow Anderson and
Emily Riggs hit back-to-back two-RBI doubles to push Fairmont's advantage to 5-0.

Moyer added her second RBI of the game in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to right field that brought home
Molly Schweitzer.
Â
West Virginia Wesleyan scored one runs in the top of the fourth to avoid the shutout, but Fairmont State answered the run in the bottom of the fourth on a ground out by Schweitzer that allowed Riggs to cross home plate.

Schweitzer and
Haley McDaniel both recorded two-hit performances for the Falcons in game two. Schweitzer, Anderson, Riggs and Cosgrove each hits doubles in the win.

Kadi Cosgrove (3-3) pitched a complete game to improve to 3-3 on the season. She finished the afternoon by allowing just one run on six hits, while also striking out two.

Fairmont State will return to action Saturday against Glenville State. The senior day doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch. Senior day recognition will begin at 12 noon at Duvall-Rosier Field.
