CANTON, Ohio – Fairmont State had five A-final qualifications on Thursday evening during the third day of the GMAC/MEC Swimming Championships in Canton, Ohio.
Day three was highlighted by a third-place finish from
Zsofi Bevardi in the women's 400 individual medley with a time of 4:43.18.
Kaitlyn Stumpf and
Kayla Fogle also quailed for Thursday's B-final in the 400 IM.
On the men's side,
Pedro Gaspar,
Majester Abdul-Jalil,
Tyler Virtue and
Josep Castan all qualified for A-finals. Gaspar finished sixth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:46.64, while Abdul-Jalil also finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.07. Virtue finished just behind Abdul-Jalil in seventh place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.24. Castan qualified for the A-final in the 100 butterfly and turned in a time of 52.65 to finish eighth in the event.
Fairmont State also had seven individuals qualify for B-finals on Thursday, while 12 others swam in C-finals.

To cap the night in the 200 freestyle relay, the Fairmont State men finished seven with a time of 1:30.45 (Fubio, Castan, Bishop, Wilson), while the women came in ninth with a time of 1:46.48 (
Sarah Stallman,
Makayla Burns,
Cheri Signorelli and
Alexis Antol).
Heading into the final day of competition, the Fairmont State women are in seventh place with 316 total points on the week. UNC Pembroke leads all MEC programs with 690.
On the men's side, Fairmont State is in sixth place with 588 points. Notre Dame is in second place overall and leads all MEC programs with 685 points.
