BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Fairmont State and West Virginia Wesleyan split a Mountain East Conference baseball doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon in Buckhannon. The Falcons rolled to an 8-2 win in game one, while the Bobcats responded with a 6-4 victory in extra inning during game two.

Following this afternoon's action, Fairmont State improves to 6-14 on the year, including 4-8 in league play. The Bobcats are now 3-7 on the year (3-7 MEC).

Game 1
Â
In game one, P.J. Lanham got the scoring started for the Falcons in the top of the first on an RBI single to center field that brought home
Tyler Haskins. WVWC responded in the bottom half of the inning following an RBI single from Cade Leach.

In the top of the third,
Zach Musgrove put the Falcons in front by a 3-1 advantage follow an RBI double that brought home two runs and put Lanham on third base.
Jacob Goodnight pushed Fairmont's lead to 4-1 on a sacrifice fly during the next at-bat.

After holding Wesleyan off the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, FSU scored four more runs in the top of the fourth to take a commanding 8-1 advantage. Lanham started the scoring with a two-RBI double into right center that scored
Justin Brown and
Chris Green. Musgrove added two more runs later in the inning on a two-run RBI double of his own, this time to right field.

The Bobcats plated one more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the final score 8-2.

The Falcons held an 11-7 advantage in total hits and were also aided by a pair of Wesleyan errors.

Green led the Falcons at the plate with a 3-of-4 performance, while Musgrove, Goodnight and Lanham each recorded two hits apiece. Musgrove had two doubles and drove in four runs during the game.

The Falcons used a committee of pitchers in the win, as the five pitchers combined for seven strikeouts and allowed just two runs on seven hits.
Ben Taylor was credited with the win for the Falcons.

Game 2

In game two, Wesleyan used a three-run home run by Leach in the first inning and a walk-off, two-run home run by Adrian Delgado in the bottom of the eight to earn the win.

After falling behind 4-0 in the bottom of the first, Fairmont State was able to score four runs in the top of the seventh to knot the score at the end of regulation. Vince Sabitino got the scoring started for the Falcons on a two-run RBI double. Later in the inning, Brown belted a two-run home run to left field to bring home Sabatino and himself to tie the game.

During the third at-bat in the bottom of the eight with a runner on first, Delgado hit the walk-off homer to give the Bobcats the win.

Wesleyan responded in game two with an 11-7 hit advantage over the Falcons. Lanham and Sabatino led the Falcons at the plate with two hits apiece in the setback.

The Falcons once against used a committee of pitchers in the game, this time using six arms.
Logan Smith suffered the loss in extras.

Fairmont State will return to action on Saturday at Wheeling University. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
