FROSTBURG, Md. -- Fairmont State softball rolled to a doubleheader sweep over Frostburg State on Wednesday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action. It was the first road appearance of the season for the Falcons.

With the pair of victories, Fairmont State improves to 10-4 on the season, including a 6-4 mark in league play. Frostburg fell to 9-6 on the season, including 7-3 in the league.

Game 1
Â
In game one, Fairmont State opened up an early 4-0 lead in the first three innings and never looked back in the 10-4 triumph.
Carlie Schlosser put the Falcons on the scoreboard in the top of the second on a two-RBI triple that scored both
Kadi Cosgrove and
Abbey Ammons. In the top of the third,
Andie Baughman hit her third home run of the season, a two-run shot that made the score 4-0 in favor of the Falcons.

Courtney Worcester made it 5-0 in the top of the fifth on an RBI single that allowed
Emily Riggs to touch home plate.

After Frostburg scored one run in the bottom of the fifth, Fairmont State took complete control with a five-run sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
Cierra Chastain, Schlosser,
Haley McDaniel, Riggs and Worcester each drove in one run apiece for the Falcons during the inning.

Frostburg got three runs back in the bottom of the sixth, but that ended the scoring and allowed Fairmont State to take the 10-4 victory.

Fairmont State recorded 14 hits in the win, including a home run, triple and double. Seven different players recorded hits for the Falcons, including a 4-for-4 performance from Worcester and a 3-for-4 performance from Cosgrove. Riggs and Schlosser also went 2-for-4 in the game.

Chastain (4-1) earned the win in the circle for the Falcons, recording seven strikeouts during the outing.

Game 2

In game two, Caitlyn Kassey (3-1) pitched a three-hit shutout and went the distance for the Falcons in the win. She also recorded a pair of strikeouts.

Fairmont State broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the third inning when Riggs hits an RBI single that plated McDaniel for the first run of the game. During the next at-bat, Worcester doubled and brought home Riggs to push the Fairmont State lead to 2-0.

In the top of the sixth, Cosgrove singled and ended up scoring an unearned run following an errand throw by the Frostburg State center fielder.

Cosgrove's run was the final of the game as the Falcons earned the sweep with a 3-0 shutout in game two. The Falcons totaled eight hits in the win to pull their afternoon total to 22 hits during the twin bill.

Riggs and Cosgrove led the Falcons at the plate in game two, each going 2-for-3. Six different players recorded hits in the game.

Fairmont State will return to action on Saturday against Notre Dame College. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Duvall-Rosier Field.
