FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Falcons had a strong showing at the Atlantic Regional Volleyball Crossover in Wheeling, W.Va over the weekend, taking a 3-0 match against Bloomsburg University (25-21, 25-20, 25-20), a 3-2 win over Slippery Rock (23-25, 25-17, 25-13, 13-25, 15-7) and a 3-0 victory over Millersville (25-11, 25-18, 25-20). Fairmont State dropped just one match, a 3-2 loss against Clarion (23-25, 25-13, 16-25, 26-24, 15-10).
Fairmont State now sits at 9-3 on the season.Â
Match 1 – Fairmont State vs. BloomsburgÂ
On Friday, Fairmont State claimed the first match of the day with a 3-0 victory over Bloomsburg University, hitting .314 against the Huskies.Â
Statistically, the Falcons were superior in every category, recording more kills, aces, blocks, assists and digs than their opponent.Â
Junior
Amelia Moore led the team with 14 kills, while senior
Julia DiPaola added 12 and
Keara Lewis chipped in eight. DiPaola, senior
Kelsey Moeller and junior
Bryce Knapp each contributed one ace to the Falcons' offense, while senior
Lilianna Keber recorded 33 assists.Â
Defensively,
Emma Ludwig aided the Falcons with four blocks, and Knapp posted 22 digs.Â
Match 2 – Fairmont State vs. Clarion
Â
Fairmont State dropped a five-set match to Clarion University Friday evening to close out day one of competition.Â
The Falcons came out on top of a tight battle in the first set, outscoring the Golden Eagles 25-23. Clarion responded with a strong second set, taking the win 25-13 to even the score. Fairmont State went on to command the third set 25-16, before falling in both the fourth (26-24) and fifth (15-10) sets.
Seniors Keber and DiPaola each recorded double-doubles for the Falcons, with Keber finishing the match with 43 assists, 12 digs, two blocks and one ace, and DiPaola chipping in 13 kills, 25 digs and three blocks.Â
Match 3 – Fairmont State vs. Millersville
The Falcons opened day two of competition with a three-set sweep over Millersville, hitting .311 against the Marauders.
Lewis led the team in kills (10), while Knapp led the team in digs (14). DiPaola and Keber were also instrumental in the win, with DiPaola posting nine kills, one ace, one block and nine digs, and Keber recording 27 assists, six digs, and one block.Â
Match 4 – Fairmont State vs. Slippery Rock
Fairmont State was victorious in a five-set match against Slippery Rock, clinching the win with a score of 15-7 in the final set.Â
Lewis once again led the Falcons with 15 kills, while DiPaola added 14 and Moore added 12. Knapp was essential to both Fairmont State's offense and defense, recording three aces, six assists and 24 digs.Â
Keber came away with her second double-double of the weekend, finishing the match with 16 digs, 49 assists, four blocks and one ace.Â
Fairmont State returns to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 21 in a home match against Shepherd.Â
