FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Fairmont State dropped a 2-0 final against Slippery Rock on Sunday afternoon in Atlantic Region action at Duvall-Rosier Field.
Statistically, the team stayed close throughout, with Slippery Rock holding an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. The Rock held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
The difference came on the scoreboard as SRU's Faith Diffenbacher broke a scoreless tie in the 36
th minute off a corner kick by Kayla Swope. The SRU lead would remain 1-0 until the 76
th minute when Swope recorded her second assist of the day and set up Rachel Edge for the game-clinching goal and the 2-0 lead.
Fairmont State had its chances during the game, as SRU goalkeeper Emma Yoder had to turn away seven on-target shots to keep her clean sheet intact.
Kiera Kuzinski recorded three shots on goal for the Falcons, while
Ari Christiansen recorded two more high-percentage shots with Fairmont State on offense.
Taylor Kennedy recorded six saves in the FSU goal.
Fairmont State will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 15 against Wheeling University. Start time is slated for 7 p.m. at Duvall-Rosier Field in Fairmont.
