#7 Men's Basketball Tops Charleston, 81-66

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- No. 7 Fairmont State Men's Basketball never trailed in an 81-66 victory over the University of Charleston inside Joe Retton Arena today. 

The Fighting Falcons are now 16-3 on the season and 11-3 in MEC play while the Golden Eagles fall to 14-4 and 10-3 in conference contests.

Cole VonHandorf opened the afternoon with a layup to start the scoring for Fairmont State as the Falcons never trailed in the 40 minutes of the game. VonHandorf buried a three-pointer at the 16:51 mark as Fairmont State was on their way to their 16th win of the season. The Falcons went on a 15-4 run to push their advantage to 17-4 and handled the Golden Eagles throughout the first half. Georg Mangas sent home a dunk with three minutes to play in the first half to give Fairmont State the 37-19 lead inside Joe Retton Arena. The Fighting Falcons entered the halftime break with a 41-30 margin over UC.

In the second half, Fairmont State pushed their lead to 28 points after a layup from VonHandorf to give the Falcons the 73-45 margin over the Golden Eagles. Zyon Dobbs capped off a solid victory with a dunk with 1:28 to play in the second half with Fairmont State holding the 79-60 edge. The Falcons earned their 16th win of the season by the final score of 81-66 over Charleston on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons shot 55% (33-60) from the field with 10 three-pointers as Isaiah Sanders led the way with 20 points on 7-11 shooting and 4-7 from beyond the arc. The trio of Dobbs, Briggs Parris, and VonHandorf scored 14 points apiece. Mangas rounded out the scorers in double-figures with 11 and Seth Younkin collected 11 rebounds in addition to four points and three assists in 35 minutes of action.

UC was held to 44.3% (27-61) from the field with Jeremiah Keene scoring 14 points to pace the Golden Eagles. Isaiah Gable joined Keene in double digits with 12 points and brought in six rebounds.

Fairmont State (16-3, 11-3 MEC) returns to Joe Retton Arena as the Falcons look to avenge another early-season loss to Glenville State (7-10, 4-9 MEC) on Wednesday, February 2nd. The game is slated to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. as part of a double-header with the women's basketball team.
