Parris' 25 Points Lifts Falcons over Glenville State

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- No. 12 Fairmont State Men's Basketball hosted a Glenville State in a Mountain East Conference clash on Wednesday night where the Fighting Falcons prevailed 98-87 over the Pioneers.

Zyon Dobbs answered a basket from GSC with a three-point play after a drive to the basket and earned another point from the free-throw line at 18:46 in the first half. Fairmont State retook the lead at 15-14 after Briggs Parris collected his first of seven three-pointers on the night at the 15:07 mark of the opening half. The Falcons staked out to an eight-point margin after a layup from George Mangas and added two after a fastbreak slam dunk via Isaiah Sanders. Cole VonHandorf added three points of his own as Fairmont State headed into halftime in front 52-40.

Out of the halftime break, Sanders extended the lead to 14 points off a steal by Dobbs and slammed one home on the fastbreak 47 seconds into the second half. Glenville State used timely three-pointers from Zane DeSouza and Tommy Williams to cut the Falcon lead to four points at the 16:52 mark. DeSouza knocked in a three-pointer to tie the score at 58 on an assist by John Williams with 15:13 remaining in regulation.

Tommy Williams hit another from deep to give the Pioneers the 61-58 lead with 14:37 remaining, but Fairmont State quickly retook the lead after back-to-back baskets by Zyon Dobbs and Briggs Parris. Glenville State's Seth Fallon evened the score at 66 after his lone three-pointer on the night. Fairmont State used an 8-2 run to push their lead back to six points, but Glenville State answered once more with a layup by Adrian Scarborough to tie the score at 80 apiece. The Falcons finally closed the deal with an 11-0 run. Sanders started the run with a thunderous dunk from a drive outside the paint to give Fairmont State the 84-80 lead with 4:17 to play. Dobbs finished the run with a fastbreak layup as the Falcons improved to 17-3 on the year and 12-3 in conference play.

Parris led all scorers on the night with 25 points as VonHandorf followed with 23 and Dobbs collected 22 points in tonight's win. Sanders continued his consecutive game streak of scoring in double-figures on the night with 15 and Seth Younkin had a solid outing with nine points and eight rebounds.

For Glenville State, Tommy Williams scored 24 points on 9-14 shooting with DeSouza gathering 21 points on the evening. Scarborough (17 points) and John Williams (13 points) rounded out the Pioneers in double-digit scoring.

Fairmont State shot an efficient 60.7% (37-61) from the field as a unit with 13 three-pointers. GSC went 35-80 (43.8%) from the floor with 13 three-pointers of their own.

No. 12 Fairmont State Men's Basketball heads to Concord University on Saturday afternoon to take on the Mountain Lions at 4 p.m. in a MEC matchup.
