Fairmont, W.Va., -- The Falcons beat the Wheeling University Cardinals 4-0 at home on Wednesday evening. This moves their record to 7-2-3 on the season and 7-2-2 in the Mountain East Conference.
Forward Kiera Kuzinski scored 3 goals on the evening, with defender Ari Christiansen finding the back of the net as well. With her 13th goal of the season, Kuzinski breaks the school record of 12 goals, which she previously set last season.
Fairmont State started off with another convincing start to the game, where they led 3-0 after just 14 minutes of play. Kuzinski netted a goal in the 2nd minute to kick off the scoring. Midfielder Alyssa Weaver was awarded the assist of Kuzinski's first goal. Kuzinski went on another scoring attack, where midfielder Mackenzie Gillespie would find Kuzinski this time in the 6th minute. To end the scoring of the first half, forward Jessica Schneider took a free kick just outside the box after a Wheeling University foul. Defender Ari Christiansen found the ball with her head to score her first goal of 2022 season in the 13th minute against Wheeling.
In the second half, Fairmont State had many chances, and was able to capitalize on a corner kick in the 83rd minute. This came off a kick from forward Tristen Bright where she found the head of Kuzinski for her third goal of the night. Overall, the Falcons were solid defensively, as they defended 7 shots from the Cardinals' attack.
Fairmont State will play at home against Alderson Broaddus on Sunday, October 16th at 1:00 p.m
