Fairmont, W. Va. – The Fairmont State Women's Soccer team hosted Concord University, where they would gain a 3-0 win to improve to 4-2-3 on the season. This win propels the Falcons into a great place as they start the second half of their season.
Coach Kernell Borneo spoke about the win, "Coach Emily, Coach Brandon and I are all proud of our girls, as this victory was a total team effort. It's the first victory for our ladies over Concord since October 3, 2017. This was a special win for us."
The Falcons got off to a fast start, as the score was 2-0 after just 15 minutes in the game. The scoring started with Alejandra Puerto in the 10th minute, after a huge hustle play where she won the ball off the Concord defense. Just three minutes later, Kiera Kuzinski came through with a composed finish after using some skill to get around a defender.
Going into the second half, Fairmont State was able to keep up the defensive mentality, as they held off Concord's offense that had 8 total shots during the game. Taylor Kennedy collected 7 saves on the day.
Puerto would find the back of the net yet again off a beautiful cross from Kuzinski, where she headed the ball into the goal, in the 62nd minute. This made the score 3-0, which is how the match would end.
Fairmont State will look to continue their winning streak when they travel to Glenville State on Wednesday, October 5th at 7:00 p.m.
