Soccer Continues Unbeaten Streak at Charleston

Soccer Improves to 10-2-4

Charleston, W. Va. — The Fairmont State Women's Soccer team defeated the University of Charleston on the road 3-1 on Wednesday evening. This improves the Falcons' record to 10-2-4 on the season. With this win, the Falcons gain the longest undefeated streak in women's soccer program history.

From the jump, this game was proven to be a battle. The Falcons gave up a goal first in the 15th minute off a free kick from outside the box. Fairmont State was quick to respond off a corner kick in the 18th minute. Junior forward Jessica Schneider served a perfect ball into the back post that senior defender Ari Christiansen was able to head into the back of the net. The score was even at 1-1 going into halftime.

The Falcons came out fast, as they scored two goals in the first 5 minutes of the second half. To make the score 2-1, freshman forward Lesbia Alejandra Puerto Sorto found Schneider. She would tap the ball past the UC goalkeeper for a finish in the 48th minute. This is Schneider's first goal of the season.

Just two minutes later, Schneider took another free kick that the Falcons would capitalize on. She was able to find the head of junior forward Kiera Kuzinski for a third and final goal in the 50th minute.

Fairmont State continued to fight on defensively, where senior goalkeeper Taylor Kennedy made 3 saves against Charleston's 13 total shots, with only 4 being on goal. The Falcons put up 10 shots, and 6 on frame.

While the game was going on today Fairmont State Soccer was featured in the second set of Regional Rankings coming in as the #9 team. You can check out those rankings here: https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-women/d2/regional-rankings
