Soccer onto the MEC Semifinals

Soccer will face WV State in the MEC Semifinals Friday

Fairmont, W.Va – The Fairmont State Falcons, #2 seed from the North division, hosted #3 seed Notre Dame College on Tuesday evening to earn a 1-0 win to move on to the next round of the Mountain East Conference tournament.

Both teams battled to have chances on goal, but Fairmont State had the better of the opportunities. They gave Notre Dame a lot to handle with 16 shots, and 6 being on goal during the entirety of the match. Notre Dame had 2 looks on goal, with just one being on frame. Senior goalkeeper Taylor Kennedy had to make 1 save, while Notre Dame goalkeeper was forced to make 5 saves.

The two teams were tied at the half but looking to take advantage of the chances that they had on goal in the second half.

Junior froward Kiera Kuzinski found herself on a drive in the 83rd minute. She saw freshman forward Lesbia Alejandra Puerto Sorto towards the box, who she made a pass to. Kuzinski kept her run going and Puerto laid the ball off to her, where Kuzinski was able to finish for the game winning goal.

The Falcons were able to shut down all of Notre Dame's attacks during the remainder of the match to win 1-0.

Fairmont State will look towards a match with West Virginia State University for the MEC semifinals. A few weeks ago, the two teams tied 2-2. The matchup will take place in Institute, WV on West Virginia State's field on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. As always, the game will be streamed on https://www.mountaineast.tv/
