WHEELING, W.Va. -- Fairmont State Women's Basketball cruised to an 89-53 victory over Wheeling University on Wednesday night inside the Alma McDonough Center.
Madeline Huffman scored the first basket for the Fighting Falcons with a three-pointer at the 9:02 mark of the first quarter.
Kamrin Weimer added three more with 7:38 left in the first stanza as Fairmont State pushed its lead to seven points on two free throw makes by
Katy Darnell.
In the second quarter, the Falcons continued to dominate the Cardinals after a layup by Darnell to push Fairmont State's lead to 20 points. Huffman added a layup to the point totals as Fairmont State went into the halftime break up 49-29.
The second half proved to be all Fairmont State as the Falcons scored 40 points in 20 minutes of action to earn their 13th victory of the season and 11th in Mountain East Conference play.
Sierra Kotchman paced the Falcons with 18 points on 7-15 shooting with two made three-pointers.
Jalen Gibbs (14 points) and Weimer (11 points) joined Kotchman in double-figures to lead Fairmont State on Wednesday night. As a team, Fairmont State shot 51.5% (34-66) from the field with nine three-pointers and went an efficient 12-14 from the free-throw line.
Lauren Calhoun led Wheeling with 20 points and 11 rebounds as Taylor Cullen finished with nine points in the contest. The Cardinals were held to 21-64 (32.8%) from the floor while only making one three-pointer on the evening.
