FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- On Saturday afternoon, Fairmont State Women's Basketball seniors
Sierra Kotchman and
Kamrin Weimer were honored before the Mountain East Conference contest with West Liberty got underway. The Hilltoppers picked up the 93-80 victory inside Joe Retton Arena.
Katy Darnell led the Falcons with 19 points off the bench on 7-12 shooting as Kotchman and DeAngelo each had 14 points on the afternoon.
Jertaya Hall collected 10 points in 19 minutes of play as
Kamrin Weimer and
Jalen Gibbs chipped eight points apiece.
For West Liberty, Bailee Smith had a career-high 34 points on 10-19 from the field and went 10-12 from the free-throw line. Corinne Thomas registered 23 points as Arriana Manzay and Audrey Tingle had 15 and 11 points respectively. Tingle was three assists shy of a triple-double as she pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with 11 points.
Fairmont State knotted the score at 11 apiece with 3:22 remaining in the first quarter, but West Liberty ended the quarter up 17-14.
Kotchman knocked in a three-pointer to give the Falcons the 23-22 advantage with 6:35 left in the second and DeAngelo connected on a three to regain the one-point lead with 4:03 left before halftime. The Hilltoppers closed the second quarter on an 11-4 run to pull ahead 40-36.
The third quarter proved critical for West Liberty as the Hilltoppers grew the margin to 11 points after two free throws by Molly Bauer. Darnell hit a jumper with 23 seconds to make the score 62-53 in favor of WLU.
In the fourth quarter, West Liberty maintained the margin and grabbed the 93-80 victory over the Falcons after scoring 31 points in the final ten minutes.
As a team, Fairmont State shot 40.0% (32-80) from the field with five three-point field goals and 11-18 from the charity stripe. The Hilltoppers went 29-57 from the floor with 10 three-pointers and were 25-31 from the free-throw line.
