Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Fighting Falcons started their season debut today in Florida as Fairmont State earned a split on the first day of competition. The Falcons picked up a 7-4 victory in the second game of the afternoon against the University of Bridgeport after falling 6-1 to Tiffin University in the morning session.
GAME 1 (Tiffin 6, Fairmont State 1)
Fairmont State got on the board first in the bottom of the first after
Brooke Schmitt led off with a single.
Molly Schweitzer drove in
Peyton Wetherholt two hitters later to grab the 1-0 advantage over the Dragons.
Tiffin answered in the top half of the second inning with two runs and scored four more in the final three innings of play.
Courtney Moyer paced the Falcons with two hits in the contest and grew one walk in her other plate appearance. Schmitt, Schweitzer, Wetherholt, and
Isabella Yelle all reached on base with each collecting a hit.
Caitlyn Kassay recorded the loss as Kassay went three innings with two runs (zero earned) allowed, five hits, one walk allowed, and two strikeouts on the morning.
Ally Maddy came in relief going two innings with two walks and two strikeouts.
GAME 2 (Fairmont State 7, Bridgeport 4)
Fairmont State earned a split on the day with a 7-4 decision over the University of Bridgeport on Sunday afternoon. The story will be updated once the box score becomes available.
Fairmont State Softball is back on the diamond tomorrow with its first game at 10:00 a.m. against Davenport University. The Falcons then face regional opponent Gannon University at 12:15 p.m. from the Polk State Diamondplex.
