FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State Women's Tennis opened the home portion of their schedule this afternoon as the Fighting Falcons took on Bloomsburg. The Huskies won the overall match, 4-3, as
Ainara Pastor Garcia and
Emme McKnight both went 2-0 on the day.
Pastor Garcia and McKnight teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, over Bloomsburg to start the Falcons on the right foot. The Huskies collected the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Pastor Garcia won in straight sets to even the match up at one point apiece with the 6-3, 6-2 victory over Bloomsburg's Rea Hagishima.
Candela Sevilla also won in straight sets for Fairmont State as she defeated Bloomsburg's Anna Chikhalenko, 6-2, 6-1, to give the Falcons the 2-1 advantage.
McKnight won a marathon match at the No. 3 singles for Fairmont State as took the first set 6-1. Bloomsburg's Lexi Quackenbush battled back to knot the match at one set apiece, but McKnight prevailed in the third set with the 6-3 set win.
Ana Carolina Tacchi was able to send the No. 4 singles match to a decisive set but was unable to grab the victory as Bloomsburg took the overall match 4-3.
The Fighting Falcons are back on the home tennis courts on Sunday, March 20
th versus Salem at 2 p.m. The match was scheduled for Saturday but has been pushed back to Sunday due to the chance of rain.
