FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State Women's Tennis picked up a 5-2 match victory over Salem University on Tuesday afternoon. The Fighting Falcons are 4-4 on the season as they begin Mountain East Conference play on Saturday afternoon against Davis & Elkins.
The Falcons swept the doubles point with a set victory at the No. 1 court by
Ainara Pastor Garcia and
Emme McKnight, 7-6.
Candela Sevilla and
Ana Carolina Tacchi blanked the Tigers at No.2 court, 6-0, and
Trang Hong Nguyen and
Hannah Sprout earned the victory at No.3. court via a Salem forfeit.
Fairmont State earned four wins in the singles matches on the day as McKnight, Nguyen, Sprout, and
Emily Harper all won via straight sets or a Salem forfeit.
McKnight collected her second straight singles victory in a row with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No.3 court. Nguyen followed with a 6-1, 6-0 straight-set win at the No. 4 singles court, and Sprout registered a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 5 court. Harper earned the fifth point for Fairmont State with the No. 6 singles match being forfeited by Salem.
The Fighting Falcons are back in action on Saturday, March 26 when Fairmont State faces Davis & Elkins in conference action.
