WHEELING, W.Va. -- Fairmont State Women's Tennis headed to Wheeling Park today to take on West Liberty this afternoon as the Hilltoppers claimed the 7-0 victory in the Falcons' Mountain East Conference season opener.
The Fighting Falcons dropped all three doubles matches on the day with
Ainara Pastor Garcia and
Emme McKnight narrowly dropping the 6-3 set to WLU's No.1 doubles pair.
On the singles side, McKnight, reigning MEC Athlete of the Week, took the first set, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. West Liberty's Gemma Cliffe was able to overcome the first-set loss with a three-set victory (1-6, 6-3, 6-4). Pastor Garcia lost a first-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles, 7-6 (6) as Hilltopper Emma Arnal secure the match with a 6-3 set in the second set.
Fairmont State returns to its home tennis courts tomorrow afternoon as the Falcons take on Frostburg State at 3 p.m. alongside the men's team.
