Women's Tennis Earns 7-0 Victory against Frostburg State

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State Women's Tennis joined the men's team with a 7-0 win on the day as the Fighting Falcons improved to 5-5 on the season and 1-1 in Mountain East Conference action.

Fairmont State got on the board early with the doubles point as Ainara Pastor Garcia and Emme McKnight registered a 6-1 set over Frostburg State's No.1 pair. Candela Sevilla and MacKenzie Sorton earned the doubles point for the Falcons with a 6-2 set win at the No. 2 court. Hannah Sprout and Trang Hong Nguyen collected the sweep for Fairmont State on court number three with the 6-4 decision.

The Falcons won all six matches on the singles portion of the day in straight sets as Sevilla started strong with the 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 court. McKnight followed with a 6-2, 6-1 match win at No. 3 singles to give Fairmont State the 3-0 lead. Pastor Garcia clinched the match for the Falcons with the 6-4, 6-3 decision at the No. 1 singles position.

Sprout went 2-0 on the day as she defeated Frostburg State's Sydney Goering, 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 5 court for the fifth point of the day. Harper improved her singles win-streak to three matches on the year with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at court number sixth.

Sorton closed the deal for Fairmont State as she won a second-set tiebreaker (7-6 (4)) to earn the straight-set victory (6-2, 7-6).

Fairmont State (5-5, 1-1 MEC) hosts the University of Charleston (9-6, 0-0 MEC), No. 22 in the nation, on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. from the Fairmont State University tennis courts.
