FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- On Sunday afternoon, Fairmont State Women's Tennis notched a 4-1 match victory against Edinboro University to improve to 6-5 on the season.
The Fighting Falcons earned the doubles point after
Candela Sevilla and MacKenzie Sorton won a 7-5 decision at the No. 2 court.
Ainara Pastor Garcia and
Emme McKnight blanked the No. 1 pair from Edinboro on the first court.
McKnight won her second consecutive match on the spring season as she collected the first set, 6-4 before her opponent retired due to injury in the second set.
Pastor Garcia produced the third match point for the Falcons as she overcame a first-set setback, 7-5, at No. 1 singles. Pastor Garcia notched the second set at 7-5 and powered past with a 6-3 set victory in the third.
Ana Carolina Tacchi earned the deciding point at No. 5 singles with a straight-set victory (6-3, 6-0).
Trang Hong Nguyen was up a set at the No. 4 court before the match was stopped after Tacchi's singles victory.
The Fighting Falcons are back on the tennis courts on Saturday, April 9 as Fairmont State returns to Mountain East Conference play as West Virginia State comes to town.
