BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Fairmont State women's tennis continued its winning ways on Tuesday afternoon as the Fighting Falcons downed West Virginia Wesleyan, 4-3, in front of an energetic crowd.
Ana Carolina Tacchi won the deciding match in the third set, 6-4, to give the Falcons their second match win in Mountain East Conference action.
Fairmont State is now 7-5 on the season and 2-1 in MEC contests.
The Falcons started the match with a sweep of the three doubles matches.
Ainara Pastor Garcia and
Emme McKnight dispatched the No. 1 WVWC, 6-1, and
Candela Sevilla and MacKenzie Sorton earned the doubles point for Fairmont State at the No. 2 court with the 6-1 set victory.
Trang Hong Nguyen and Tacchi collected the sweep for the Falcons in the doubles portion with a 7-6 set victory at the No. 3 doubles.
In the singles matches, Pastor Garcia gave Fairmont State its second point of the overall match with a straight-set victory (7-5, 6-3) at the No.1 court.Â
Sevilla followed Pastor Garcia's lead with a two-set victory at the No. 2 court at 6-1, 7-6.
McKnight battled to force a third and final set at No. 3 singles but fell 6-4 in the deciding set.
WVWC had the overall match at all square, 3-3, after victories on the No. 5 and 6 courts.
Tacchi overcame a tough first set to claim the match victory for the Falcons with the 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory on the No.4 singles court.
Fairmont State (7-5, 2-1 MEC) returns to its home courts tomorrow afternoon as the Falcons host West Virginia State (9-4, 3-0 MEC) at 3 p.m.
