Fairmont State Drops Contest to Bloomsburg on Sunday Afternoon

WILSON, N.C. -- Fairmont State Baseball scored three runs through the first two innings, but the Falcons were unable to hold onto the lead as Bloomsburg grabbed the 11-3 victory inside Historic Fleming Stadium.

Noah Canterbury doubled to left field that brought home Jacob Goodnight to give Fairmont State the one-run lead in the first inning. Zachary Musgrove doubled the advantage on a fielder's choice as Tyler Haskins touched home plate.

In the top of the second, Dwayne Thomas led off the inning with a double to left field and advanced to third on a single via Ryan Goff. Thomas came home on a sacrifice fly by Goodnight two batters later as the Falcons led 3-0.

Connor Cramer was throwing well through three innings as he scattered two doubles by the Huskies in the first third of the game. Bloomsburg's Ben Newbert homered to left field to cut the deficit to 3-2. Cramer continued his strong day on the rubber going five and two-thirds innings and striking out seven batters with two runs allowed and three hits on his afternoon.

The seventh inning for Bloomsburg proved critical as the Huskies plated seven runs in the seventh to take the commanding 9-3 lead. BU added two more runs in the eighth to win 11-3 in Wilson, N.C.

Steven Ricketts took the loss on the mound for the Falcons as he allowed four runs (two earned) in one-third of an inning. Evan Mcdade came in to get two batters out while allowing two runs and striking out one in the contest. Alex Seymour used 11 pitches to finish the eighth inning.

Canterbury continued his strong start to the season with three hits on the day as the Staunton, Va. native has had seven multi-hit games on the season. Goff followed with two hits on the day as Alex Tennant, Dwayne Thomas, and Justin Brown each collected a hit.

Fairmont State returns to West Virginia for their home opener on Saturday, March 12th as the Falcons host Clarion in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
