Cramer's 11 Strikeouts Propels Fairmont State to Game One Victory over Glenville State on Saturday Afternoon

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State baseball team used a complete-game performance by Connor Cramer in today's opener against Glenville State as the Falcons went 1-1 on the day. The Falcons are now 12-13 on the season and 7-3 in Mountain East Conference play.

GAME 1 (Fairmont State 5, GSU 3)

Cramer was impressive in today's start as the right-handed pitcher from Thurmont, Md. went seven innings and only allowed three runs (three earned) on six hits and struck out a career-high 11 Pioneers in the contest.

GSU's Matthew Mangum lifted the scoreless game with a home run to left field as the Pioneers led 1-0 after the top of the third. Fairmont State answered quickly in the bottom half of inning as Jacob Goodnight sent a ball over the center-field fence to give the Falcons the 2-1 advantage. Tyler Haskins followed up Goodnight at-bat with a single to left field and stole second base. Haskins was able to come around score after Glenville's Nick Moore balked to give the Falcons the two-run lead.

The Pioneers got back one run in the fourth, but Cramer was able to get out of the jam after GSU's Fabian Escalante was thrown out trying to score the third run for the Pioneers.

Ryan Goff joined Goodnight with a home run as he smoked a ball down the left-field line to regain the two-run advantage for the Falcons. The Pioneers got back within one run once more as Glenville's Tre'von Smith registered a home run as well.

Fairmont State recollected themselves as Goodnight hit his second home run of the contest with a solo shot to center field to give the Falcons the 5-3 advantage.

Cramer earned his fourth win on the mound this season as he finished the sixth and seventh innings with zero Pioneers reaching base. The final score of game one from the Bridgeport Recreation Complex was 5-3 in favor of Fairmont State.

GAME 2 (Fairmont State 1, GSU 6)

Glenville State took the second game of today's doubleheader by a final of 6-1 as Pioneer Adam Riggleman did not disappoint as he went six strong innings with 12 strikeouts.

The Pioneers got in the scoring column first once again as GSU's Zach Morris reached on a throwing error by Ryan Goff as Colby Werry scored on the play.

Fairmont State was able to knot the score at one apiece after a solo home run by PJ Lanham in the bottom of the second, but the Falcons were unable to plate any more runs throughout the rest of the contest.

In the top of the third, Glenville State score three runs (all unearned) as costly errors by the Falcons in the field gave the Pioneers the three-run advantage.

The Pioneers tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning to grab the five-run cushion.

In the bottom of the seventh, the game got interesting as three Falcons were able to reach base after two straight strikeouts. The tying run was on deck as Goff grounded out to the Pioneers' second baseman to end the seven-inning contest.

Brett Whiteman took the tough loss after going 2.1 innings on the mound as he allowed two hits, four runs (zero earned), and one walk. Whiteman added two strikeouts to his season totals as well.

Lanham had two hits in game two for Fairmont State and added the lone RBI as well. Goff chipped in a hit with the Falcons drawing six walks.
