Matt Yurish registered his 100
th career coaching victory with the 3-2 victory in game one. 11 Falcons were also recognized in between games as part of senior day.
The Fighting Falcons have a record of 27-18 and 22-8 in Mountain East Conference contests. Frostburg State holds a record of 30-15 and 20-10 in league action.
GAME 1: Fairmont State 3, Frostburg State 2 F/9
In the first game of Sunday's twinbill, senior
Zachary Musgrove doubled down the left-field fence as
Tyler Haskins sprinted from all the way to first base to win 3-2 in nine innings.
The Bobcats scored one run each in the third and four innings to take the 2-0 advantage.
In the fifth inning, the Fighting Falcons got on the board and knotted the score at two after Musgrove drove in Haskins via a sacrifice fly to left field. Haskins tripled to the right-center gap to plate Brown to get the first run on the board for Fairmont State.
The game remained at two apiece until Musgrove walked off the contest with a two-out double with Haskins coming around to score all the way from first base.
Brett Whiteman got the start on senior day as the right-handed pitcher from Ridgeley, W.Va. went seven full innings and struck out five batters as Whiteman received a no-decision in the contest.
Ben Taylor came in relief of Whiteman as he went the final two frames and only allowed one hit while striking out two.
GAME 2: Fairmont State 5, Frostburg State 10
The Bobcats broke open the game in the seventh inning with five runs as Frostburg State knotted the four-game set at one game apiece.
Frostburg State collected the 10-5 victory with five runs, all unearned, as the Falcons were unable to battle back from the deficit in the bottom of the seventh.
Musgrove,
Justin Brown, and
Vince Sabatino all had home runs in the second game of the doubleheader as Haskins and
PJ Lanham each chipped in a double in the game.
Alex Pane took the loss for Fairmont Satte after allowing five runs in the seventh inning.
Wil Mullins received the no-decision in his 11th start on the season as he had six strikeouts on the afternoon.
Fairmont State (27-18, 22-8 MEC) will now wrap up the regular season with the final two games of the series with Frostburg State on Monday afternoon starting at 1 p.m.
