Institute, W. VA., -- Fairmont State Football traveled to West Virginia State University and suffered a tough loss 34-29. They fall to 0-3 on the year and 0-2 in conference. Fairmont State took a 20-14 lead into the locker room at halftime but was outscored 20-9 in the second half.
To start the game West Virginia State started out fast with a 73 yard touchdown run to take a 7-0 lead. Fairmont State responded with two field goals from
Sergei Buchheit (29 yards and 22 yards) to cut the lead to 7-6. West Virginia State responded early second quarter with a touchdown to move the lead back up to 14-6. Fairmont State responds quickly with a big play of our own,
Michael Floria connected with Naseem Pacheo on a 81 yard touchdown pass. That cut the lead back to 14-13 West Virginia State. Defense got a couple stops and with 6:07 left in the first half your Falcons took their first lead of the game after a 3 yard touchdown run by
Michael Floria. They took a 20-14 into the half.
The start of the second half West Virginia State tied the game up at 20 after a quick 3 play 79 yard drive. Fairmont State answered right back with an impressive 18 play 70 yard drive that ate up 7 minutes and 52 seconds, that resulted in a 27 yard field goal by
Sergei Buchheit. The 23-20 lead was short lived as West Virginia State responded with a touchdown to take a 27-23 lead late in the third quarter.
To start the fourth quarter West Virginia State connected on a 51 yard touchdown pass to take a 34-23 lead. Similar to last week Fairmont State wouldn't go quietly as
Michael Floria threw a 11 yard touchdown pass to
Joshawn Lewis to make it 34-29 West Virginia State. Fairmont State had one last shot with the ball but West Virginia State got a game sealing interception.
The offensive leaders were
Michael Floria throwing for 263 yards and 2 touchdowns, he also had a rushing touchdown.
Myles Miree had another 100 yard game running for 130 yards on 22 carries. Naseem Pacheo was your leading receiver with 3 catches for 99 yards and a touchdown. Dante Cloud had 6 catches for 78 yards and
Kobe Harris also had 3 catches for 53 yards. The defensive leaders were
Jovon Jackson and
Josh Alt both with 9 tackles. Chris Thompson had 7 total tackles and 5 solo.
