Fairmont, W. Va, -- Fairmont State Football had an epic come from behind win over UNC Pembroke. It was a beautiful day for a Homecoming football game and the fans left happy as your Fighting Falcons won 25-23.
UNC Pembroke opened the scoring and took an early 7-0 lead. Fairmont State responded with a 56 yard touchdown run by
Myles Miree to tie the game up at 7-7.
Sergei Buchheit nailed a 34 yard field goal and the Falcons took a 10-7 lead. UNC Pembroke scored late in the second quarter to retake a 14-10 lead at the half. UNC Pembroke added to lead with a 60 yard punt return for a touchdown, that made the score 21-10. Then the defense's stepped up and it was a stand still until about 5 minutes left in the game.
Fairmont State was down by two scores and the ball on their own 22 yard line. They put together an impressive 1:43 9 play drive capped off with a
Michael Floria 5 yard touchdown pass to
Kobe Harris. Fairmont State converted a sweet two point conversion where it was a double pass from
Joshawn Lewis to
Jeremiah Taylor to make the score 21-18 UNC Pembroke. Time was against Fairmont State and they need to recover the onside kick to have any chance to complete the comeback. Buchheit had the perfect kick and
Jovon Jackson came up with the recovery. The offense made the most of the opportunity as
Michael Floria threw a 35-yard strike on the run that connected with
Kobe Harris for the touchdown and just like your Fighting Falcons retook the lead with 1:57 left in the game. UNC Pembroke got the ball back and was driving into Fairmont State territory but Anthon Fordham came up with the game sealing interception. Fairmont State scored 15 points in 2:16 seconds and won the game in dramatic fashion.
Leading the way offensively was
Michael Floria throwing 16 of 29 218 yards and 2 touchdowns. Floria also ran for 27 yards, the leading rusher was
Myles Miree who had a touchdown and ran for 117 yards on 21 carries. Your leading receivers were
Joshawn Lewis and
Kobe Harris. Lewis had 6 catches for 96 yards and Harris had 5 catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
Leading the charge defensively was
Eltayeb Bushra with 9 tackles (5 Solo, 4 Assist) and
Brocton Blair had 8 tackles (4 Solo, 4 Assist). As stated earlier Anthon Fordham had the game sealing interception he also had 3 solo tackles.
Fairmont State is back in action this Saturday on the road at 1:00 PM where they will take on undefeated Concord University.
