Fairmont State Soccer Secures First MEC Win

Falcons win 2-1 at Wheeling

Wheeling, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University Women's Soccer team traveled to the Cardinals of Wheeling University, where they came out on top, 2-1, on Wednesday evening. This gives the Falcons a 1-0-0 start to MEC play, while Wheeling moves to 0-1-0.

Fairmont State had many great opportunities to score, with 25 shots, and 11 being on goal, during the game. The Falcons were able to hold Wheeling to 11 shots, with 8 on goal. Senior goalkeeper, Taylor Kennedy, was forced to make seven saves on the day.

Your Falcons were able to break Wheeling University's pressure when sophomore midfielder, Alyssa Weaver, got a shot off in the 18th minute. The goal gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead early in the first half. Junior forward, Kiera Kuzinski, led Fairmont State in shots with 11 but was able to capitalize on one of her created opportunities in the 43rd minute.

The Falcons were successful in the offensive attack at the beginning of the second half but conceded a goal off the foot of Taylynn DeBartolo in the 78th minute of the match. Your Falcons pushed through to get the win against the Cardinals.

Fairmont State will take the field at Duvall-Rosier for the first time this season when they face Notre Dame College this Sunday, September 11th at 1:00 p.m.
