Thomas & Kosek Net Goals in 2-2 Draw at Davis & Elkins

Freshman Serenity Thomas scored her first collegiate goal on Saturday.

ELKINS, W.Va. – The Fairmont State (4-7-2, 3-6-1 Mountain East Conference) women's soccer team played to a draw at Davis & Elkins (2-9-2, 1-7-2 MEC) on Saturday (Oct. 14) afternoon at Nutall Field in Elkins, W.Va.
 
Serenity Thomas and Kylee Kosek both netted goals for Fairmont State. Isabella Maldonado finished the game with an assist on Thomas' goal. Olivia Johnston made eight saves on the day.
 
Lauren Dye recorded the game's first shot on goal in the ninth minute. Maldonado found Thomas in the 12th minute for her first collegiate goal that put the Falcons ahead 1-0. Johnston made a save in the 20th and 22nd minutes to keep her team in the lead. Gabi Madrid tallied a shot on target in the 23rd minute. Johnston made two additional saves in the final 15 minutes of the first half. Fairmont State led 1-0 at halftime.
 
In the 52nd minute, Alejandra Puerto fired a shot on goal that was saved by the D&E 'keeper. Kosek scored Fairmont State's second goal of the afternoon in the 58th minute that added to the Falcons' lead. Puerto aimed another shot on goal in the 65th minute. Johnston corralled a pair of saves in the 69th, 70th and 78th minute to keep the Falcons in front. The Senators got on the scoreboard in the 82nd minute when Vivian Kerr led Sasha Tristram for a goal. Moments later, it was Kerr again recording an assist for the Senators, this time finding Madeline Vesser for the equalizer in the 86th minute. Thomas logged a shot on goal in the 87th minute. Neither team could find a goal in the final minutes and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Fairmont State women's soccer team returns to MEC North play and will travel to West Liberty on Wednesday (Oct. 18). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. from West Liberty.
