FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State (6-8-2, 5-7-1 Mountain East Conference) women's soccer team fell in the final home regular season match of the season to Notre Dame (Ohio) on Wednesday (Oct. 25) night at Duvall-Rosier Field in Fairmont, W.Va.
NDC finished with two more shots than Fairmont State, with both teams recording seven shots on goal. NDC's Jordan Pasalaqua made seven saves while
Olivia Johnston corralled four.
Notre Dame (Ohio) struck first when Louisa Follert angled a pass to Ashley Rainho for the game's first goal in the 10th minute. NDC added to its lead in the 21st minute when Miriam Szijarto scored a breakaway goal and made the score 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
Kiera Kuzinski fired a pair of shots on goal in the first half, which were saved by Pasalaqua and the team.
Kuzinski recorded two additional shots on goal within the first five minutes of the second half, which were both saved by the NDC 'keeper.
Serenity Thomas and
Filippa Stalhammar both added to the shots on goal total for Fairmont State, but Pasalaqua kept NDC in front by a pair of goals. Szijarto found the back of the net for the second time of the night in the 76th minute and extended her team's lead to 3-0. Thomas logged two more shots for Fairmont State down the stretch. NDC picked up the win on the road and earned its fifth clean sheet of the season.
The Fairmont State women's soccer team will play Salem at the Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport, W.Va. on Sunday (Oct. 29) at 1 p.m.
