FAIRMONT, W. Va. – The Fairmont State volleyball team (15-12) swept Shaw (24-5) on Senior Day Saturday (Oct. 28) afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.

Prior to the match, Fairmont State volleyball honored two graduating seniors,
Emma Ludwig and
Jay Miller.

Freshman
Ellie Zuro led Fairmont State offensively with 14 kills, and
Joey Borelle racked up 12. Borelle swung for a team high .333 hitting percentage. Jaianna Bourarouy handed out 22 assists, while
Kelsie Dangerfield passed nine.
Josie Skinn led the defense with 13 digs and chipped in two service aces.
Natalie Zemba and
Chloe McDaniel tallied five block assists each.

Inside Set One
Shaw started fast with a 9-5 lead over Fairmont State. Borelle collected a kill to adjust the score to 11-8. Shortly after, Ludwig and
Josie Nobbe teamed up for a block to cut SU's advantage to just one point. FSU pulled ahead for the first time in the set, 13-12, after a kill from Zemba. Shaw would not back down and evened the set back up 17-17. The Falcons maintained the lead after two kills from Borelle and an attack error by the Bears. Two Zuro kills made the score 22-18. The Falcons sealed the first set thanks to a Shaw service error for a 25-22 win.

Inside Set Two
The Bears started off similarly to the first set, and led the Falcons 8-3. Fairmont State turned things around with a block from the Zemba and McDaniel combo, and a kill from Borelle. Back-to-back kills from Ludwig adjusted the score to 11-8, still in favor of SU. A kill from Zemba evened the score at 13-13. A Shaw attack error gave the Falcons their first lead of the set at 14-13. SU continued to fight back but a kill from Nobbe and a block from Nobbe and Zemba made the tally 17-16. Sequential kills by Nobbe and McDaniel established a three-point Fairmont State lead over the Bears, 22-19. A kill from Borelle ended the second set in favor of the Falcons, 25-23.

Inside Set Three
Kills by Fairmont State's Nobbe and Zuro put the Falcons in the lead early in the third set, 6-3. After consecutive points from the Bears, they led 12-9 and forced an FSU timeout. Shaw kept up their pressure on and held a 16-12 lead. Fairmont State rallied and trimmed the deficit to one-point following two kills from Zuro. A service ace by Skinn tied the set at 18. A kill by McDaniel pushed the Falcons over the Bears 20-19. FSU pulled ahead 22-20 after SU attack errors. The Falcons completed the sweep after two consecutive SU attack errors and won set three, 25-22.
