FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State (4-5-1, 3-4 Mountain East Conference) women's soccer team utilized a trio of first half goals to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan (1-9-0, 0-8-0 MEC) 4-0 on Wednesday (Oct. 4) night at Duvall-Rosier Field in Fairmont, W.Va.
The Falcons struck first when
Kiera Kuzinski finished a goal after a beautiful cross from
Gracie Smith in the 21st minute of the contest. Fairmont State added another goal when
Alejandra Puerto sent a rocket into the back of the net off of a pass by
Isabella Maldonado.
Tegan Wheeler capped off the first half with her first collegiate goal that was assisted by
Ashleigh Weaver and Smith. The Falcons outshot the Bobcats 14-1 in the first half and led 3-0 at the halfway point.
Kuzinski tallied her second goal of the evening in the 61st minute off of a corner from Maldonado to add an insurance goal for the Falcons. The second goal for Kuzinski marked the eighth time in her career she scored multiple goals in a single game.
Olivia Johnston and the Fairmont State defense recorded a clean sheet, with Johnston grabbing five saves in her performance. The Falcons set a season-high in goals and picked up their third conference win of the season.
The Fairmont State women's soccer team hits the road for a conference contest at Glenville State on Sunday (Oct. 8). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. from Glenville, W.Va.
