SALEM, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State (9-10) volleyball team cruised to a three-set win at Salem (3-11) on Friday (Oct. 6) night at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium in Salem, W.Va.
Joey Borelle was the only attacker to eclipse double-digit kills and finished with 11 on the night.
Josie Skinn totaled a remarkable five service aces.
Chloe McDaniel led the Falcons at the net with four blocks.
Jaianna Bouarouy handed out 17 assists, while Borelle snagged nine digs.
With Fairmont State leading the first set 3-1, the Falcons went on their longest scoring run of the season and ripped off 12-straight points. The massive run included four kills each by freshman
Josie Nobbe and
Ellie Zuro and a kill by Borelle. After Salem won a point to make the score 15-2, Fairmont State won the final 10 points of the set, which featured a trio of kills by Zuro and a pair of kills by
Emma Ludwig. The Falcons dominated set one with a 25-2 win.
The Falcons won the first three points of the second set after kills by
Baylie Ostvig, McDaniel and Borelle. The Falcons continued their scoring spree with four-straight points that extended the lead to 16-6. McDaniel stifled a pair of Salem attacks with blocks while Borelle and Ludwig chipped in kills offensively. Salem managed to trim the Falcons' lead to seven points at 23-16. A Tigers' service error and an
Alexa Martin service ace concluded the second set for a 25-16 win for the Falcons.
The Falcons secured an early lead in the third set by earning eight-consecutive points, which was aided by three Skinn service aces. A Salem service ace and a kill by Zuro that was assisted by Skinn pushed the Falcons' lead to 20-7 late in the set. Fairmont State wrapped up the match with two kills by Ostvik and a kill by
Taylor Paul. Fairmont State secured the match victory with a 25-10 set three win.
The Falcons return to Fairmont on Tuesday (Oct. 10) and will clash versus Frostburg State at 7 p.m. inside Joe Retton Arena.
