Swimming Begins Season at West Virginia State Games

The Falcons began the 2023-24 season this weekend in Morgantown.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.—The Fairmont State swimming program began the 2023-24 season at the West Virginia State games this weekend in Morgantown, W.Va. The men's team finished third out of six teams and the women's team placed fourth of eight teams.
 
On the men's side, Patrick Fubio finished second in the 'B' 100-yard backstroke on the first day of competition with a time of 51.52. Carter Redelman took fifth with a time of 54.27 and Grant Ridenour placed seventh with a 56.98. Zach Groe placed in the top-10 with a 57.16. In the 200-yard butterfly, Redelman placed eighth overall with a 2.04.08 and Groe earned 10th with a 2.17.56. On the second day, Gabriel Peragallo finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.59. Fubio earned another top-10 finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:58.53 while Redelman took eighth with a time of 2:04.71. Bishop earned eighth place in the 200-yard breaststroke at a time of 2:25.98. Fubio placed sixth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.23. Ridenour finished seventh in the 200-yard IM at a pace of 2:04.88. The men's team capped off the event with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with the combination of Fubio, Ridenour, Bishop and Peragallo clocking a time of 1:30.09.
 
On the women's side, Alicia Perez completed the 1,000-yard freestyle at a time of 11:15.33 in 10th place while Mia Abruzzino placed 12th at 11:42.68. Ashlyn Bennington completed the race in 13th with a time of 11:57.00 and Veronica Mann placed 14th with a time of 12:04.82. Tori Anderson rounded out the scoring for the Falcons in the event at 12:33.00. Zoe Hoover was the top finisher for the Falcons in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.56. Kayla Fogle placed 16th in the 200-yard butterfly after clocking a time of 2:34.19. The 400-yard medley relay team of Lexi Antol, Perez, Fogle and Cheri Signorelli began day two with a time of 4:26.66. Hoover placed 14th in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:22.08. Fogle recorded the best time for Fairmont State in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:44.96. Signorelli, Hoover, Abruzzino and Perez teamed up for the 200-yard freestyle relay and finished eighth with a time of 1:46.20.
 
The Fairmont State swimming teams will compete in their first duals on Oct. 20 at Shippensburg, Pa. versus Shippensburg and California (Pa.).
