FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State swimming team competed in its 2023-24 home opener versus Emory & Henry and Bethany on Saturday (Nov. 4) at the Feaster Center Pool.The men's team defeated E&H 113-118 and edged Bethany 185-12. The women's team picked up a 190-37 win over Bethany and fell 147-106 versus Emory & Henry.
The Falcons swept the top two spots in the 400 yard medley relay.
Patrick Fubio, Zack Bishop,
Carter Redelman and
Gabriel Peragallo took first at 3:34.34. In Fubio's leg of the relay, he broke the Fairmont State school record and the Feaster Center Pool record with a 100-yard backstroke time of 49.98.
Grant Ridenour,
Carty Ramsay, Zach Groe and
Chris Hoover clocked a 3:49.26 for second place.
Trevor Gallardo edged his opponent by less than a second in the 1000 yard freestyle and earned second place with a time of 11:37.32.
Chris Hoover finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.28 Fubio and Redelman swept the 50 yard backstroke and added points to FSU's total. Bishop brought home another first-place finish in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 28.54. Peragallo touched the wall first in the 50 yard freestyle at 20.98 that concluded a strong first half for the Falcons. Peragallo collected another first-place finish for Fairmont State in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.72.
Patrick Fubio finished behind him after completing the race in 48.86. Redelman finished first in the 100 yard backstroke in 53.45. Ridenour continued the string of first-place finishes for the Falcons in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.50. Hoover claimed four points for Fairmont State in the 500 yard freestyle after a second place finish with a time of 5:23.84.
Patrick Fubio racked up his second individual first-place finish in the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 23.42. The Falcons concluded the meet with a 200 yard freestyle relay time of 1:29.54 with the team of Ridenour, Bishop, Hoover and Peragallo securing second place.
Alicia Perez claimed first-place honors in the 1000 yard freestyle and touched the wall in 11:28.80.
Mia Abruzzino (2:03.57) and
Ashlyn Bennington (2:10.97) added seven points for the Falcons in the 200 yard freestyle. Freshman
Zoe Hoover finished the 50 yard backstroke in 29.08 and .21 seconds ahead of Sam Pepevnik for first-place. Senior
Kayla Fogle earned a second-place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a 1:04.92.
Cheri Signorelli completed the 50 yard freestyle in 26.60 for second place. Hoover took second in the 100 yard freestyle with Abruzzino placing third. Lexi Antol garnered second place in the 100 yard backstroke at 1:04.61. Abruzzino collected four points for FSU with a second-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle. Hoover earned another top-3 finish in the 100 yard IM with a time of 1:06.33. The Falcons capped off the meet by winning the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:47.53. Antol, Signorelli,
Katerina Smith and Perez teammed up for the win.
The Fairmont State swimming team will be back in the pool on Nov. 16 for the Malone Invitational in Canton, Ohio.
