Preview: Fairmont State Football Set for Regionally-Ranked Matchup Versus Frostburg State on Senior Day

The regular season finale will be played at Duvall-Rosier Field on Saturday (Nov. 11) with a noon kickoff.

The Matchup
• The Fairmont State (8-2, 6-2 Mountain East Conference) football team is set to welcome Frostburg State (6-3, 5-3) on Saturday (Nov. 11) in the regular season finale. The matchup between the two regionally-ranked teams is set to kickoff at noon from Duvall-Rosier Field in Fairmont, W.Va. Before kickoff, the Falcons will be recognizing seniors Sam Fairley, John Holland and Randy Robinson on Senior Day. 
• The game will be broadcasted live on MEC TV. Fans can tune into SKY 106.5 FM with the voice of the Fighting Falcons Travis Jones on the call with color analyst Duane Cochran. Live stats will be provided on fightingfalcons.com.
• The Fighting Falcons have won three-straight games and have accumulated their highest win total in a single season since 2018. The three-game winning streak started when Fairmont State edged Charleston in the final seconds on Oct. 21. FSU cameback at West Virginia State in the final five minutes on Oct. 28 with a 21-20 road win and rolled to a 55-20 win at West Virginia Wesleyan in week 10.
• Since Frostburg State joined the MEC, the Bobcats and Falcons have met three times in football, with Frostburg State winning all three meetings. The Bobcats defeated Fairmont State in a 16-14 low-scoring game in 2022.

Fighting Falcons Facts
• Fairmont State football was ranked eighth in the final set of NCAA Super Region 1 Rankings that were unveiled on Monday (Nov. 6) night. The top seven teams in the region will qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Three MEC teams appeared in the regional rankings with Charleston (#3) and Frostburg State (#9) joining Fairmont State.
• The Falcons have totaled 499 wins in Fairmont State football program history, dating back to 1908. With a Fairmont State win and a Charleston loss to West Virginia State on Saturday, the Falcons would own a share of the MEC Championship. The Falcons have not won a MEC Championship since the conference was formed in 2013. Fairmont State captured 17 WVIAC Championships, with the last conference title being won in 2000.
• As a team, Fairmont State ranks fifth the country and first in the MEC in passes intercepted (17). The Falcons lead the conference in passing yards per completion (15.12 yds/completion) and turnover margin (1.40). FSU's eight turnovers lost is the fewest in the MEC.
• The 2023 Fairmont State football senior class includes defensive back Sam Fairley, offensive lineman John Holland and defensive lineman Randy Robinson. Fairley is from Pittsburgh and transferred from Slippery Rock this season. He has intercepted three passes, broken up four passes, forced a pair of fumbles and accumulated 26 total tackles. Holland, a Providence Forge, Va. native, has appeared in 26 games on the Fairmont State offensive line. Robinson hails from Hagerstown, Md. and has appeared in 40 games on the defensive line. In his career, Robinson has made 132 total tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and scored a rushing touchdown in last week's game at West Virginia Wesleyan.
• Quarterback Michael Floria has led the Falcons on a pair of game-winning scoring drives in the Falcons' three-game winning streak. He led the Falcons 50 yards and hit Gage Michael for the game-winning score versus WVSU in week nine to give the Falcons the win. Versus Charleston, Floria guided the offense on a 16-play, 78-yard touchdown drive that ended with Fairmont State scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 10 seconds on the clock in the final quarter. Floria lofted a pass to tight end Carter Giacomo on fourth and goal from the one-yard line for the game-winning score versus the Golden Eagles. Floria has tallied 97 completions for 1,414 yards and 11 touchdowns this season.
• Five running backs have bolstered the Fairmont State rushing attack this season. Leonard Farrow and Donovan Washington have each totaled six rushing touchdowns. LeJay Hatcher is Fairmont State's leading rusher and has chalked up 472 rushing yards on the ground. Hatcher ranks 10th on the conference leaderboard in rushing yards. Deriek Crosby II returned to the running back rotation for the Falcons and scored Fairmont State's first touchdown at WVSU in week nine. Elijah Tidwell has added 147 yards on the ground for an average of 5.1 yards/carry and scored his first touchdown of the season at West Virginia Wesleyan. 
• Kobe Harris is Fairmont State's leading receiver and has racked up 25 receptions for 475 yards (eighth in the MEC) and three touchdowns. In the first half versus Wheeling, he returned a punt 74 yards for a score.
• Gage Michael hauled in the game-tying score with under two minutes to go in the fourth quarter at WVSU. The Kent State transfer and Fairmont native has caught 24 passes for 400 yards in his first season donning the Maroon & White.
• Sophomore wideout Winston Page scored the game's first touchdown at West Virginia Wesleyan in week 10. Page has totaled 314 receiving yards and averages 13.08 yards/reception. 
• Noah Waynick hauled in his first touchdown pass of the season at WVWC on a 20-yard pitch-and-catch from Floria in the first quarter.
• Eltayeb Bushra has emerged as one of the premier defenders in the country and enters week 11 as the conference's interception leader with six interceptions. Bushra has the fourth-highest interceptions per game average in the country (0.6 INTs/game). The defensive back from Herndon, Va. was named the D2Football.com Defensive Player of the Week and MEC Defensive Player of the Week in week eight after snagging a pair of interceptions versus Charleston. Bushra has been named conference defensive player of the week twice. He has accumulated 54 total tackles with 8.0 tackles for loss to go along with a pair of pass breakups and a forced fumble.
• Bushra is one of three Fairmont State defensive backs to record multiple interceptions this season. Isaiah Powell-Major and Sam Fairley have both nabbed three interceptions for the Falcons' defense. All three players have returned an interception for a score this season. The Falcons had two pick-sixes in their win versus Charleston after scores by Bushra and Fairley. Brocton Blair, Jovon Jackson, Quinton Young and Kaire Umoja have each added an interception for FSU.
• Powell-Major set the Fairmont State school record for longest interception return on a 97-yard pick six in the first quarter versus Concord. The redshirt sophomore from Glen Burnie, Md. added his second interception of the night in the second quarter and finished the game with a pair of pass breakups, a forced fumble, a tackle for a loss and four total tackles. Powell-Major was awarded MEC Defensive Player of the Week for his standout performance.
• Brocton Blair leads the conference with 90.0 total tackles. The Honorable Mention All-American from last season has added six quarterback hurries, four pass break ups and 5.5 tackles for a loss. He and Jackson are the only two Falcons that have made over 70 tackles this season.
• Jovon Jackson won MEC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 11 after creating two turnovers in the week two win at West Liberty. The junior from Gainesville, Va. has made 72.0 total tackles and has forced two fumbles to go along with an interception and two blocked kicks.
• The Falcons recorded a season-high eight sacks versus Concord, with Nemo Roberts leading the charge with 2.5 sacks. Roberts leads the defensive line with 5.5 sacks this season. Randy Robinson racked up 2.0 sacks in the Falcons' win versus UC, and sealed the win with a sack on the final play of the game. Nine Falcons (Roberts, Robinson, Donovan O'Malley, Matt Pack, Izuchukwu Igwe, Bryce Mumphrey, Ben Brzezinski, Josh Alt and Kylyn Macklin) have recorded at least 0.5 sacks in the season.
• On special teams, punter Scout Arthur earned MEC Player of the Week honors in week four after averaging 41.4 yards per punt and placing three punts inside the 20-yard line versus NDC. The AB transfer has averaged 39.0 yards per punt and has placed 16 punts inside the 20-yard line. Placekicker Emmanuel Richardson shined versus UC and was 4-for-4 on field goal attempts and 3-for-3 on extra points. Richardson's season-long field goal is 43 yards. Pack and Jackson lead the MEC in blocked kicks and have blocked two kicks each. 
• Fairmont State Head Football Coach Jason Woodman is in his 11th season leading the Falcons. He secured his 60th career win at West Virginia Wesleyan and is the second-winningest football coach in school history. 

Scouting Frostburg State
• After a 6-1 start, the Bobcats have dropped their last two games in a 28-25 road loss at Charleston and a 13-10 home loss to Glenville State in week 10. Frostburg State enters the final week of the regular season ranked ninth in the Super Region 1 rankings.
• Frostburg State holds the best scoring defense in the conference and only surrenders an average of 16.7 points per game. Anthony Smith, a sophomore defensive back from Martinsburg, has intercepted four passes and is second on the MEC leaderboard in interceptions per game (0.5/game). Colby Street, a junior linebacker from Roanoke, Va., has added three interceptions. The Bobcats have snagged 15 interceptions as a team. Jaylen Parks has tallied five sacks for the Bobcats while Leonard Scott has recorded 4.5 sacks.
• Senior quarterback Graham Walker has thrown seven touchdown passes for 1,484 yards, averaging 164.9 passing yards/game. The Bobcats' rushing attack has been facilitated through Season Aaron, who has totaled 661 yards on the ground. His 10 rushing touchdowns rank third in the MEC. Sophomore wide receiver Jeremiah Gibson has racked up 379 receiving yards and averages 18.95 yards/reception.
• After serving for two seasons as Frostburg State's defensive coordinator, Eric Wagoner was named head coach of the Bobcats in 2023. Wagoner played football at Saint Francis, an NAIA school located in Fort Wayne, Ind. Wagoner launched his coaching career at Saint Francis and helped his alma mater win the NAIA National Championship in 2016 & 2017. He was named the 2016 Football Scoop NAIA Coordinator of the Year.
