FAIRMONT, W. Va. -- During the men's basketball game against West Virginia State last Wednesday (Nov. 29), a Fairmont State legend in Joe Merendino was honored. As of, November 29, 2023, the courtside seats will be named in honor of Joe Merendino, in order to recognize the time and effort he gave to Fairmont State.
The Falcon family celebrated the life of Meredino, who was actively involved in generating donations, support, and revenue for the Falcon Athletics Department over the past 20+ years. Most notably, during the 2015-2016 basketball season, Joe, Nicky Arcure, and other important community members created what is now present in Joe Retton Arena with the courtside seats.
Joe Merendino's wife, Janie, his son Tony, Tony's wife Jennifer, and his daughter Katy accepted the gift of the seat recognition and a sign that will be hung in his honor.
