Baseball Drops Series to Kentucky Wesleyan

The Panthers swept the three-game series in Tennessee this weekend.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Fairmont State baseball team dropped a three-game series to Kentucky Wesleyan this past weekend in Millington, Tenn.
 
Game One – Kentucky Wesleyan 7, Fairmont State 3
A pair of solo home runs put the Panthers up 2-0 after two innings. Tyler Haskins drove in a run after reaching first on an error to cut the deficit in half in the fourth inning. KWC added three runs in the fourth inning and two in the seventh and led 7-1 after five.
 
Isaac Miller launched his first career collegiate home run in the ninth inning to add two more to the Falcons' score. Kentucky Wesleyan took game one, 7-3. Connor Bailey, Haskins, Miller, Dwayne Thomas and Ryan Goff all finished with hits in the series opener. Peyton Brown pitched a scoreless inning.
 
Game Two – Kentucky Wesleyan 4, Fairmont State 2
The Panthers struck first with two runs in the seven-inning contest and added another in the third off a home run. Fairmont State closed the gap with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Goff scored Noah Canterbury with a sacrifice fly to get a run on the scoreboard for Fairmont State. Vince Sabatino pulled the Falcons within one run after an RBI double that scored Thomas. Fairmont State went down in order in the last three innings and dropped the second game, 4-2.
 
Connor Cramer pitched four innings and gave up just two hits and a pair of earned runs. He fanned six batters and allowed only two walks. Steen Ricketts completed two innings and allowed just one run and one hit. Alex Tennant and Sabatino smacked doubles while Canterbury and Goff both tallied hits.
 
Game Three – Kentucky Wesleyan 12, Fairmont State 2
A pair of two-run home runs and a solo home run put the Panthers ahead 5-0 after three innings. Goff clubbed a two-run shot that scored Thomas and put the Falcons within 5-2 after four innings.

The Panthers' offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and Kentucky Wesleyan held a nine-run lead after five. The Panthers tacked on a run in the eighth and won 12-2.
 
Thomas and Miller both recorded hits in the finale and the Falcons walked five times at the plate. Gordon Swiger and Evan McDade both made appearances without surrendering an earned run on the mound.
 
Up Next
The Falcons will look to bounce back next week with a three-game set at Bloomsburg beginning on Friday (March 3). The first game of two on Friday will begin at noon.
