Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Notre Dame (Ohio) 85-59

The Fighting Falcons knocked down 12 three-pointers, with Alyssa DeAngelo and Leslie Huffman making three apiece.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Alyssa DeAngelo hit three 3-pointers and scored 19 points while Leslie Huffman and Jertaya Hall each added 14 points and the Fairmont State's women's basketball team (17-8, 11-6 MEC) bested Notre Dame (OH) (6-17, 5-12 MEC) 85-59 at Joe Retton Arena on Wednesday (Feb. 8) evening.
 
Katy Darnell recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Aaliyah Brunny reached double figures with 10 points. Jalen Gibbs dominated the boards with 14 total to go along with her nine points. Madeline Huffman dished out six assists and Gracey Lamm passed four. 
 
Fairmont State team jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter after seven free throws, two field goal baskets a swish behind the arc by Brunny. With 2:03 to go in the first, Brunny knocked another triple to make the score 17-1. Leslie Huffman hit another three for the Fighting Falcons to end the quarter 24-9 in favor of the home team. 
 
Brunny opened the second quarter with a reverse layup off an assist from Madeline Huffman. Darnell and Gibbs grabbed a bucket each to extend the Fairmont State lead to 32-13 with 6:04 to play in the first half. Hall completed five points on two separate drives with a driving layup and a three. DeAngelo followed suit with a triple to make the score 40-19. Hall continued her streak in the second quarter with a layup and another three. DeAngelo ended the half with a step-back 3-pointer to make the score 52-22. 
 
Darnell completed a layup and DeAngelo hit her third 3-pointer of the contest to push the Falcons' lead to 57-22 to open the second half. Leslie Huffman recorded back-to-back shots from behind the arc with 4:24 to play in the third quarter. FSU finished the third quarter ahead 69-40. Madeline Huffman recorded her first bucket of the evening with a triple at the start of the final quarter. Gibbs and Hall finished a layup each to put the score at 78-42. Mayha Lindesmith sank a shot from behind the arc with 6:26 to play. Darnell completed a double-double for the books with a layup to make the score 84-48. The Fighting Falcons grabbed a victory with a final score of 85-59. 
 
Fairmont State will turn its focus to Alderson Broaddus where the Falcons will square off versus the Battlers in Philippi, W. Va. this Saturday (Feb. 11) at 2 p.m.
