Fairmont State Baseball Scores Four Runs in Final Two Innings of Game One to Earn Split Versus GSU

Alex Perez and Alex Tennant both knocked in a pair of runs in the game one win at Glenville.

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Trailing by a pair of runs in the sixth inning, the Fairmont State (2-13, 1-1 in Mountain East Conference play) baseball team scored four runs and won 6-4 over Glenville State (8-11, 1-1) in game one of the MEC season opener on Saturday (March 18) in Glenville, W.Va. The Pioneers secured the game-winning run on a walk to win the second game of the doubleheader, 3-2.
 
Game One – Fairmont State 6, Glenville State 4
GSU put up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Falcons evened the score at 2 in the top of the second when Vince Sabatino plated Ryan Goff and Dwayne Thomas on a two out RBI knock. The Pioneers regained the lead in the third inning on a two out triple and extended its lead to two on a two out hit in the fifth.
 
Alex Perez hit his first home run in a Fairmont State uniform with one out in the sixth inning to cut the deficit in half. In the top of the seventh inning, Sabatino began the rally after drawing a walk with one out. Connor Bailey was plucked by a pitch and the tying run was advanced to second base. Alex Tennant delivered a clutch two RBI double that put the Falcons ahead, 5-4. Perez hit a two-bagger with two outs that scored Tennant to pad the Fairmont State lead. Ben Taylor recorded the final three outs in the bottom half of the inning and the Falcons completed the comeback.
 
Perez led the offensive charge with three hits, two extra-base hits and two RBIs. Tennant, Sabatino and Ryan Goff also chipped in knocks. On the mound, Connor Cramer pitched five innings and struck out four. He allowed two earned runs on six hits. Taylor picked up his first win of the season and struck out one in two innings of work.
 
Game Two – Glenville State 3, Fairmont State 2
Sabatino started the third inning with a walk. With Connor Bailey at the plate, Sabatino swiped second base and advanced to third on a Glenville State throwing error. After a Bailey walk, Tennant scored Sabatino on an RBI fielder's choice and the Falcons grabbed an early lead. GSU evened the score in the bottom of the third inning.
 
Tennant drove in his second run of game two on a base hit that scored Goff in the fifth inning. GSU scratched across a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly to tie the score at two. The Pioneers loaded the bases on two walks and a hit by pitch in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, the Pioneers drew their third walk of the inning and plated the game-winning run and won the low-scoring game, 3-2.
 
Logan McClure twirled six innings and punched out five GSU hitters. Saturday's outing marked his second quality start of the season after allowing just two runs. Tennant swung for multiple base hits and tallied the lone RBIs for the Falcons. Goff and Sabatino added hits for the Fairmont State offense and Bailey walked three times.
