ATHENS, W.Va. – The Fairmont State (2-15, 1-3 in Mountain East Conference play) baseball team jumped out to a lead in both games versus Concord (8-11, 4-0) but the Mountain Lions completed comebacks and won by a run in both games of the doubleheader on Monday (March 20) at Anderson Field in Athens, W.Va.

Game One – Concord 6, Fairmont State 5
The Falcons struck in the first inning with a trio of runs after a Concord error that scored
Connor Bailey, a
Drew Hogue RBI hit and a
Ryan Goff walk. CU hung up a four spot in the third inning with an RBI hit and a three-run home run and held a 4-3 lead after three.

Noah Canterbury tied the game in the fifth inning after driving home
Alex Tennant. The Mountain Lions regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after a bases loaded hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly.
Noah Armstrong doubled with two outs in the seventh inning and scored on an error by CU on the next play. The Falcons had the winning run on first base but could not find a run to even the score.

The Falcons outhit the Mountain Lions 8-5 and made two fewer errors in the opener. Three Falcons (Tennant, Armstrong and Hogue) swung for multiple hits while Bailey and Canterbury both collected one. On the mound,
Zane Loveday struck out two in 4.2 innings.

Game Two – Concord 4, Fairmont State 3
The Mountain Lions' first two batters in the second base reached safely on a base hit and a walk.
Jacob Young managed to get out of the jam after a sac bunt, a groundout and a flyout and did not allow any runs in the inning. Fairmont State loaded the bases in the third inning with one out, but Concord induced a 6-4-3 double play to avoid damage. Both teams were held scoreless after three innings.

Armstrong whacked another double to start the fourth inning. Hogue followed with a single to left field and the Falcons had runners at the corners with no outs. Goff scored Armstrong on a sacrifice fly. After a Concord wild pitch, Sabatino placed a bunt single with two outs that moved Hogue to third. Bailey hit a clutch base hit to score Hogue with two outs and the Falcons led 2-0 after four.

The Mountain Lions knotted the score at two in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI groundout and a triple. The Falcons responded in the sixth inning after Sabatino earned his second hit of the game that scored Goff. The Mountain Lions scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh on a throwing error and an RBI single and won the second leg of the doubleheader.

Fairmont State racked up 11 hits with Armstrong going 3-for-4 to lead the charge. Bailey and Sabatino both added a pair of hits and each had an RBI. Young hurled a quality start and surrendered just two earned runs over six innings.
