Connor Cramer's complete game led the Fairmont State (3-17, 2-4 in Mountain East Conference play) baseball team to a split versus West Virginia State (9-8, 4-2) on Saturday (March 25) at Cal Bailey Field in Institute, W.Va.

Game One – Fairmont State 5, West Virginia State 1
Both team struggled to find success on offense in the early going. Fairmont State broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning with four runs.
Ryan Goff began the inning with a base hit to left field.
Quintin Reep moved Goff to second on a sacrifice bunt. A WVSU error put runners at the corners with one out.
Vince Sabatino scored Goff on a sac fly for the first run of the game. With two outs,
Connor Bailey singled on a bunt to move the runner into scoring position.
Alex Tennant singled to score
Cade Sikoski and Perez followed with a two-RBI hit to right and the Falcons took a 4-0 lead into the sixth.

Bailey scored Goff on a sacrifice fly in the sixth that put the Falcons up 5-0. The Yellow Jackets scored one in the seventh inning. Cramer collected the final three outs and finished the complete game.

Bailey and Goff both led the Falcons with two hits each. Perez (2), Tennant (1) and Bailey (1) all had RBIs in the Fairmont State win.

Cramer went the distance and struck out seven WVSU batters. He worked around six hits and allowed one earned run in his outing. He collected his first win of the 2023 campaign.

Game Two – West Virginia State 12, Fairmont State 5
WVSU jumped out to a three-run lead on an RBI double and a two-RBI single. The Falcons trimmed the margin to one in the bottom half of the inning after a sacrifice fly by Perez and an RBI single by
Noah Canterbury. The Yellow Jackets extended the lead back to three with two runs in the fourth.

Noah Armstrong scored Perez and Canterbury in the fourth on a dropped sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to one. Sabatino tied the game at five with a single to left at five. WVSU went on to score seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings and split the doubleheader after winning game two, 12-5.

Canterbury went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI single and a double. Sabatino, Perez and Armstrong all picked up RBIs in game two.
Logan McClure punched out five batters in 5.2 innings.
