FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Fairmont State athletic department mourns the loss of Fairmont State Athletics Hall of Famer and quarterback of the 1967 national championship team, Roy Michael.

Michael was the first Fairmont State player to surpass the 2,000 career yards mark and ended his career with 2,572 total yards. He helped lead the Falcons to a pair of WVIAC titles and led the team to a national title in 1967.

After his playing career at Fairmont State, Michael was the head football coach and wrestling coach at Mannington and North Marion High School. He had a career record of 158-56 in football and won a pair of state wrestling titles. Michael was inducted into the Fairmont State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008.
