Falcons Play to a Scoreless Draw versus Salem

Fairmont State outshot Salem 27-1 in the draw.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Fairmont State (3-2-1, 2-1 Mountain East Conference) soccer team accumulated 27 total shots and 15 shots on target but played to a draw versus Salem (0-3-1) on Wednesday (Sept. 20) night at Duvall-Rosier Field in Fairmont, W.Va.
 
The Falcons recorded 18 shots in the second half and finished with 16 corner kick opportunities. Salem goalkeeper Sarah Cabera made 15 saves in net for the Tigers and kept a clean sheet on the night.
 
Tegan Wheeler fired the first shot for the Falcons in the fourth minute that went wide right. Kiera Kuzinski tallied a pair of shots within the first 20 minutes and Kylee Kosek fired a shot saved by Cabera in the 20th minute. Kate Bertrand recorded a shot on target in the 26th minute and continued the first-half scoring opportunities for Fairmont State. Wheeler, Lauren Dye and Kosek all aimed shots in the final 15 minutes of the half, and the game remained 0-0 after 45 minutes of play.
 
In the first five minutes of the second half, Claire Schenkel, Riley Miara and Gabi Madrid all tallied shots for the Falcons. The Fairmont State offense continued to develop opportunities in the attacking third with shots by Ava Behr and Tricia Lemasters adding shots on target that were saved by Cabera. Ashley Harding, Dye and Kosek had chances to score in the final minutes of the contest with the game concluding in a scoreless draw.

The Fairmont State women's soccer team will be back at Duvall-Rosier Field on Sunday (Sept. 24) with a match versus Frostburg State beginning at 1 p.m.
