FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University swimming team competed in its first competition after a small break over the holidays. Both the men's and women's teams picked up wins over Wheeling University at the Fester Center Pool by scores of 122-77 and 107-92, respectively.
The women's team started the afternoon with a win in the 200 Medley Relay as the quartet of
Alexis Antol,
Cassidy Driver,
Kayla Fogle and
Cheri Signorelli hit the wall in 2:00.49. Alicia Perez,
Veronica Mann and
Ashlyn Bennington placed second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 1000 Free.
Mia Abruzzino claimed the 200 Free with a time of 2:04.49 while
Zoe Hoover was victorious in the 50 Free, stopping the clock at 25:41. Fogle earned her second win of the day, this time indivdually in the 100 Fly (1:02.93). Perez took the top place in the 100 Free (57.85) as the final win for the women's side came in the 400 Free Relay. The team of Hoover, Perez,
Katerina Smith and Abruzzino touched the wall at 3:52.15.
As for the men, their day started as well in the 200 Medley Relay as
Carter Redelman, Zack Bishop,
Grant Ridenour and
Gabriel Peragallo claimed first with a time of 1:40.39. Redelman followed it with a win 1000 Free, stopping the clock at 10:47.28.
Peragallo earned an individual win in the 50 Free with a time of 22:32 before
Patrick Fubio won the 200 IM (2:08.18). Fubio also went on to win the 100 Back (54.73) while Bishop took home the final individual win for the Falcons in the 100 Breast, hitting the wall in 1:02.08.
In the final event of the afternoon, the grouping of Peragallo,
Chris Hoover, Zach Groe and Fubio took the top-spot in the 400 Free Relay. The quartet finished the race in a time of 3:27.02.
The Fairmont State swimming team will conclude the home portion of the season on Saturday, January 27 against Notre Dame College. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m. as the team will honor its seniors before the event.
