The Fairmont State University men's basketball team battled Davis & Elkins College in a crucial Mountain East Conference battle. A battle it was as
Zyon Dobbs hit a mid range jumper with 2.1 seconds left to complete a comeback for the Falcons, 73-72.

Starting in the second half, Davis & Elkins (9-8, 5-5) led 42-35 but Fairmont State (13-4, 6-4) mounted a comeback with threes from
Cameron Whiteside and
Tommy Williams to even the score at 42. Whiteside then score five-straight before the Senators responded with an 11-0 run to lead 53-47 with 13:46 on the clock.
Out of a timeout, Dobbs nailed a three followed by a dunk by
Callum Crossman to narrow the margin to just one (53-52). Unfortunately, the visiting team rattled of eight-consecutive to lead 61-52 with 8:39 remaining in regulation.
The two sides went back-and-forth until an and-one play by Whiteside with two more free throws on the next possession made it a two-point contest (70-68) with 2:45 to go. After Davis & Elkins made a layup, the two sides missed several shots until the 1:10-mark as Whiteside nailed a three to make it 72-71.
Following a missed three by the Senators and a Dobbs'Â rebound, the Falcons called a timeout. Out of the break, the team in-bounded the ball and after a deflection by the visitors, the ball found its way to Dobbs. At this point, graduate student guard drove down the right lane, stepped back and hit the mid-range shot to push the home side ahead, 73-72. A half court shot by the Senators sailed just to the left of the rim to give FSU the thrilling victory on Dan Cava Court at the Joe Retton Arena.
Dobbs finished with 23 points, six rebounds and five assists while Whiteside dropped 31 in the game. The Falcons grabbed 35 rebounds compared to 30 for the visitors while forcing 12 turnovers.
Fairmont State journeys to Frostburg, Maryland on Saturday, January 27 to face the Bobcats of Frostburg State. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.
