CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's soccer team made the mid-week journey to the University of Charleston. Two first half goals was the difference as the Falcons fell to the Golden Eagles, 2-0.

The opening minutes of the first half saw most of the play occurred near midfield until the ninth minute. The University of Charleston (9-3, 8-1) moved the ball into the box as it found Lina Jamie as she moved into an open space and scored the opening goal.

Neither side really got anything going but in the 24th minute, the Golden Eagles doubled its advantage on a goal from Jamie Bland. A minute later, Fairmont State's Sam Yuen put the first shot on goal for the team but it was saved. At the break, the hosts held the 2-0 lead.

In the second half, both teams started to find their offensive rhythm as the two placed numerous shots on goal but both goaltenders stopped each chance. Late in the match, the Falcons put back-to-back shots on target with a chance to cut the deficit but the Charleston netminder made both saves. As time expired off the clock, the Falcons fell by the two-goal margin.

The Falcons held the advantage in shots (13-9) and shots on goal (8-7) as Olivia Johnston finished the night with five saves.

Fairmont State (6-5-1, 5-4-0) hosts Davis & Elkins on Sunday, October 20 as it is Senior Day for the Falcons. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
